Zur Person

Prof. Dr. Tetsuya Ito ist Professor für Humangeographie am Institut für Geographie der Rissho Universität (Fakultät für Geo- und Umweltwissenschaften) in Tokyo, Japan. Nach seinem Masterstudium der Geographie und Hydrologie an der Universität Tsukuba promovierte er auch dort mit einer Dissertation zum Thema „Stadterneuerung in Nürnberg". Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen in den Bereichen der Stadterneuerung, des demographischen und wirtschaftsräumlichen Wandels und der raumbezogenen Nachhaltigkeitsforschung. Er ist Mitglied der „Association of Japanese Geographers".

Forschungsprojekt

Im Rahmen seiner Forschungsaufenthalte an unserem Lehrstuhl beschäftigt sich Prof. Dr. Tetsuya Ito insbesondere mit Aspekten der nachhaltigen Stadterneuerung aus drei Perspektiven der städtischen Umstrukturierung:

Nachhaltige Verkehrs- und Mobilitätskonzepte, u.a. Mikromobilität
Ressourcenschonende bzw. -sparsame Stadtplanung inklusive entsprechender architektonisch-städtebaulicher Konzepte
Soziale Nachhaltigkeit in raumbezogener Perspektive, u.a. in Verbindung mit Maßnahmen partizipativer Stadtentwicklung und Bürgerbeteiligung

Zentraler Forschungsgegenstand ist die Untersuchung von Perspektiven und Erarbeitung von Handlungsfeldern einer nachhaltigen Stadterneuerung unter dem Einfluss des demographischen Wandels mit einem Fokus auf Mobilitätsthemen. Diese Forschungsthematik wird konkretisiert am Beispiel der Fallstudie zur Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf. Düsseldorf ist aufgrund der starken japanischen Prägung („Little Tokio am Rhein") in Japan bekannt und bietet somit Anknüpfungspunkte, die gerade im Sinne einer Vergleichbarkeit deutscher und japanischer Stadtentwicklungen herangezogenen werden können.

The person

Prof Dr Tetsuya Ito is Professor of Human Geography at the Department of Geography at Rissho University (Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences) in Tokyo, Japan. After completing his Master's degree in Geography and Hydrology at the University of Tsukuba, he also completed his doctorate there with a dissertation on the topic of 'Urban Renewal in Nuremberg'. His research focuses on urban regeneration, demographic and economic change and spatial sustainability research. He is a member of the 'Association of Japanese Geographers'.

Research project

As part of his research stays at our chair, Prof. Dr Tetsuya Ito is particularly concerned with aspects of sustainable urban renewal from three perspectives of urban restructuring:

Sustainable transport and mobility concepts, including micromobility
Resource-conserving and economical urban planning, including corresponding architectural and urban planning concepts
Social sustainability from a spatial perspective, including in connection with measures for participatory urban development and citizen participation

The central object of research is the investigation of perspectives and development of fields of action for sustainable urban regeneration under the influence of demographic change with a focus on mobility issues. This research topic is concretised using the example of the case study on the state capital Düsseldorf. Düsseldorf is well known in Japan due to its strong Japanese character ('Little Tokyo on the Rhine') and thus offers points of reference that can be used to compare German and Japanese urban developments.
